Recorder Courses

SUNDAY JUNE 24th 2018

10.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Adult and older teenage singers are invited to help Edinburgh Young Musicians celebrate its twentieth anniversary with scratch performances of Vivaldi's Gloria and Dvorak's Te Deum with full orchestra, and soloists Alex Goskirk (soprano), Sally Carr (soprano), Katie Rutherford (alto) and Ian Sutherland (baritone) conducted by Colin Touchin.  Rehearsals will take place from 10.30 a.m. until 4.15 p.m. with plenty of break-times, including an hourís lunch-break for the chorus.  An informal performance will run from 4.45 p.m. until approximately 6.00 p.m.  The event will take place at St. Thomas of Aquin's High School, Chalmers Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9ES.

Participation in the chorus will be open to all, whether or not they have a connection with EYM.

The cost for singers will be £20 for applications received by June 14th or £25 for those received later (£12/£15 for concessions).   Scores can be hired for £3 for 1 score or £5 for both and will be sent out in advance if requested on the booking form at least 2 weeks before the event.  Tickets for audience members for the performance will be £5 (concessions £3, schoolchildren free) and can be obtained at the door.  Singers are encouraged to book early in order to help with the planning of the event.  Further information will be sent to participants nearer the time.

We will be using the version of the Vivaldi Gloria, RV589, as in the OUP, Carus, new Ricordi (ed. Malipiero), New Novello (ed. Jasmin Cameron) & Peters editions.  Some old editions including old Ricordi (ed. Casella) have significant differences, both in notes and in having fewer bars, and these editions should not be used.

For those who are not confident of reading from a score without help, there are several web-sites designed to help chorus members learn their parts in advance of the day.  Searching on-line for "Dvorak Te Deum tenor part" for example, will lead to these sites.

A booking form can be downloaded here.
